Caring for the Neck in the Authentic Pilates System
Vivian Piccone Jung

This is the first in a series of mini workshops presented by Vivian. Each session focuses on a specific topic, explored in-depth over 1.5 hours, and includes a workout that integrates the concepts covered. The goal is to provide just the right amount of focused information so participants can easily retain and immediately apply the tools and exercises in their own teaching.
To support somatic learning alongside visual and auditory input, every workshop includes a group workout.
This workshop will cover these questions:
- What is the neck?
- What should we be concerned about with the neck?
- What are the first things to do to protect and support the neck?
- What are the next things to do to strengthen and support the neck?
On any given day, a client might walk in complaining of neck pain—maybe it radiates into the shoulder, feels like a pinch, or presents as a general strain. Also, chronic neck issues are common, often stemming from poor posture, lack of muscle tone, or repetitive movements. As Pilates teachers, we’re tasked with delivering a great workout while keeping clients out of pain, helping reduce discomfort, strengthening the neck, and still addressing their broader goals.
Neck pain can feel intimidating to manage. This workshop is designed to provide practical tools from the Pilates system for working with clients experiencing active pain, chronic discomfort, sudden strain, or general weakness in the neck.
Pilates offers a wide range of thoughtful, layered options for supporting and protecting the neck. In this mini workshop, we’ll start with the safest foundational exercises, then build in gentle strengtheners and stretches that can be added progressively.
Vivian will guide you through key decision-making strategies to help you feel more confident and capable when working with clients dealing with neck issues.
Spaces are limited to ensure each participant has time on the equipment and receives personalized attention.
